If you notice that your new tattoo seems to blur within a few days, you are probably suffering from a tattoo blowout. The first thing you should do is notify the artist who tattooed you. Even if your tattoo artist may offer to cover up the tattoo, you should consider all your options.
Sometimes tattoos look messy and blurry while they’re healing. You may see some ink oozing and blurred lines as your skin repairs itself. However, if your skin has healed and the lines of the tattoo look inaccurate and smeared, then you have a tattoo blowout. Give your tattoo a few weeks to heal.
To “fix” the blurry ink, you can try to correct it with additional tattooing. This may mean getting a full cover-up tattoo covering up the old messed up design, but it could also mean finding a tattoo artist who can work with the blurred and exaggerated lines to make the ink easy to clean.
2Some of the ink will seep.
You will very likely wake up in the morning to find that the ink has seeped into the bandage – and it can be disconcerting because it looks like your entire tattoo is kind of smudged. Leakage is perfectly normal and actually means the tattoo is healing properly.
Because of this, your initially perfect tattoo will become blurry after a few days and the edges will begin to spread. The overall image may be slightly or severely distorted.
The milky phase or drying phase generally occurs after the itchy scab falls off the tattoo. It happens in the last phase of healing. The milky layer of skin covering your tattoo will naturally peel off over time. It will take about two weeks.
After 3 weeks or so, the scab should have fallen off completely and a thin layer of skin should have formed over the tattoo. This layer of skin is called “silver skin” and makes the tattoo look a little shiny and dull. The brightness will return over time once the tattoo has fully healed.
Over-wetting can lead to inflammation and infection of the tattoo. Excess moisture can lead to clogged pores as the moisturizer prevents the skin from breathing. Excess moisture can cause tattooed skin to break out.
My tattoo looks like it’s fading. Is that normal? A tattoo is VERY light when it’s first done, but during the healing process it starts to look discolored and dull. Don’t worry, once the tattoo has healed, the color will come back.
