Here’s my ~personal~ review: Fairlife is a bit scary to drink. The texture is much more viscous and thick than regular milk, and the smell is really strong, to the point that it almost smells spoiled. It tastes okay, but has a slightly musky flavor that reminds me of long-life or reconstituted milk.
Occasionally our products will have a slightly unfamiliar odor upon opening as a result of our pasteurisation and the fact that it is a higher protein milk, but this is perfectly normal and perfectly safe. It’s also something we’re working on solving!
Thanks to ultra-pasteurization, 52 ounces of Fairlife ultra-filtered milk has a longer shelf life than regular milk. Unopened and refrigerated, it will last up to 110 days (Fairlife DHA will last up to 90 days). However, once opened, it should be kept refrigerated and used within 14 days .< /p>
If the milk doesn’t have an unpleasant smell or taste, you can still use it. If the milk has turned slightly sour, it can still be drunk. However, you have to ask yourself if you find it appetizing enough to use. Sour milk shouldn’t be used to pour over breakfast cereal, it should be used in baking.

Our ultrafiltration and aseptic packaging allows us a shelf life of up to 9 months for Elite 42g protein products and up to 12 months for 26g protein products. Once opened, all Core Power® products should be consumed like any other milk within 14 days and kept refrigerated.
After opening, fairlife® has the same shelf life as normal milk and should be used within 14 days and kept refrigerated.
Milk spoilage is due to bacterial action on the protein rather than the lactose. Rot milk will curdle, separate, and can smell foul if left to stand for a few days. The most common cause of the problem is contamination in processing equipment after pasteurization.
In 2021, cruelty to animals is likely to still occur on Fairlife’s farms. Fairlife’s website says that after ARM exposed Fairlife’s cruelty, the dairy company stopped buying milk from Fair Oaks and established “a robust welfare program” with its other farms, into which Fairlife invested over $8 million invested.
A small sip of spoiled milk is unlikely to cause any symptoms beyond a bad taste. Drinking large amounts of spoiled milk can cause stomach upset resulting in abdominal cramps, vomiting and diarrhea (like a foodborne illness). In most cases, symptoms caused by drinking spoiled milk will go away within 12-24 hours.
Fairlife milk is made through a filtration process that separates milk into water, fat, protein, vitamins & minerals and lactose (milk sugar) and then combines them in varying proportions to create lactose-free milk with 50% more protein, 30% more calcium and 50% less sugar than regular milk.
Compared to regular 2% milk, Fairlife milk has significantly more protein and calcium – 13 grams or 380 mg compared to 8 grams or 283 mg – and about half the sugar and carbohydrates.
According to the US Department of Agriculture, milk and other dairy products should be stored in the refrigerator at or ideally below 40°F. When the temperature gets higher, bacteria can multiply in the milk, causing the putrefaction and odor.
Spoiled milk has a distinct sour smell that is due to lactic acid produced by bacteria. Other signs of spoilage include a slightly yellow color and lumpy texture (15).
Depending on the food (and your body), food poisoning can occur several hours – or even several days – after drinking spoiled milk. Most food poisoning is mild and symptoms resolve within a day or two.
