In the Rikki-Tikki-Tavi story, Darzee is a tailor bird who lives in the garden of the bungalow in the British borough of Segowlee.
Darzee is a songbird. In other words, he has a beautiful voice, but that’s about it. In practical terms, his mind is too prone to soar, as we see when he composes songs for Rikki-tikki’s victory while otherwise doing nothing to help the mongoose (64-70).
What role does Darzee play in the story? Darzee causes the hatred of Nag in Rikki Tikki because it is the fact that Nag ate from Darzee’s chicks that Rikki becomes very angry with Nag. He’s also a comical character to make the story a little lighter and less serious. Darzee is a victim of history.
Why was Darzee upset? Answer: Darzee was upset because one of her babies fell out of the nest and Nag ate it. 4. When Rikki was talking to Chuchundra, he heard Nag and Nagaina talking outside the bathroom.
Darzee’s wife is smarter than Darzee because she contributes to Rikki’s fight while Darzee just sits around and sings about it.
Teddy’s father only shoots Nag after Rikki-tikki kills him and throws the snake onto the garbage heap. Rikki-tikki and Darzee’s wife hatch a plan to get Nagaina off her eggs.

So Darzee starts the conflict by explaining how Nag ate one of Darzee’s babies that fell out of the nest, and later, and he also fills in some details about what after what happened to Rikki and the man team up to kill Nag. From the bird we learn that Nag’s body was thrown onto the rubbish heap.
Teddy’s mother and father are a typical, almost clichéd (or should we rather be archetypal?) mother-father duo. The mother is a bit shy when it comes to all things “nature”, as we see when she’s afraid to let Rikki-Tikki sleep with Teddy (15).

Darzee and his wife are the tailor birds who help Rikki in his fight against the cobras. They are in danger because the cobras are preying on them and their babies. They mourn first because one of their babies was eaten by Nag. “We are very unhappy,” said Darzee.
Nag is the male cobra that inhabits the garden in front of the family’s bungalow. Nag is one of the antagonists of this short story, simply because he goes into battle with the protagonist, Rikki-Tikki.
Darzee was a feathery little fellow who could never think of more than one idea at a time; and just knowing that Nagaina’s children were born in eggs like his own, at first he didn’t think it was fair to kill her.
Darzee, the tailor bird, helped him, and Chuchundra, the musk rat, who never gets on the middle of the floor but always crawls around the wall, gave him advice ; but Rikki-tikki did the actual fighting.
Darzee’s wife pretended to have a broken wing to pull Naigaina away from the melon patch where the cobra’s eggs were hidden…
