The fishing rod in Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 is one of the most important items that you will find in the game. In Pokémon Black and White, it was automatically given to you by Looker after beating the game for the first time; In this case you will receive it much later, from Professor Juniper’s father Cedric.
In Nuvema Town, in the Junipers Laboratory, Professor Cedric Juniper (Professor Juniper’s father) will give you a fishing pole if you speak to him. Go to Nuvema Town and the Professor’s Laboratory. Talk to the guy at their table to get the fishing rod.
Once you begin the Water Trial on Brooklet Hill, you’ll immediately receive the Lapras PokeRide to traverse the area. Chase all the Wishiwashi downstream to finally face the Totem Pokemon at the end of the path. After completing the trial, Lana will give you the Fishing Pole.
All of these battles are great fun (and profitable), but what you’re really looking for is the entrance to the Union Cave. It’s all the way south past a handy Pokemon Center. Go in there and talk to the fisherman on the left. He’ll give you an old staff that you can use to fish for Pokémon by the water.
Your goal as an aspiring fisherman should be to acquire the good rod, which is located to the east, just outside of Hearthome City. Another fisherman NPC should be on your way once you leave the big city and enter Route 209.
Unfortunately, the old staff isn’t capable of catching Pokemon other than Magikarp (and technically Feebas, but more on that later).
Once you humbled Cheren at the foot of Twist Mountain (after earning the 6th Gym Badge), you will receive HM03 – Surf . At this point, you have the world at your feet.
Poipole is a Legendary Pokémon that can only be obtained by completing the Ultra Beast Quest with an Ultra Saddle. Hatching a Poipole Egg counts toward your Shiny Chain.
The Fine Rod usually allows encountering higher-level Pokemon than the old rod, and the Super Rod typically allows encountering higher-level Pokemon than the fine rod. Generation V only includes the Super Rod awarded by LookerBW or Cedric JuniperB2W2 during the Aftermath.
The more puzzles you solve, the more types of Unown can be caught. (There are 26 variations in total, one for each letter of the English alphabet. Ruins of ALPH, got it?). After catching all 26 unknowns, you should return to the lab.
