One of the best sources of Illusion Dust I can see are Emerald Lion Rings and Glowing Thorium Bands. Both only require 1 Thorium Bar and 2 Huge Emeralds/Azerothian Diamonds.

Any armor item needed at level 51-56 is good for Illusion Dust (57-60 works too as long as they aren’t drops from abroad). If you can find cheap greens that are 51-56 level req on the AH, this might be a better place.

I found that the easiest way to get Strange Dust is by disenchanting items I can craft. I would buy several stacks of Linen Cloth for 15s each, craft Brown Linen Robes, and then DE for 2-5 Strange Dust. Six stacks of linen = 90s.
