Airsoft is an extreme sport, similar to paintball, in which participants aged 10+ eliminate opponents by hitting them with 6mm biodegradable plastic airsoft BBs that can be CO2 or battery powered. With a realistic look that adds to the overall gaming experience.
Airsoft is a popular combat simulation game in which participants are eliminated when hit by bullets fired from cannons that resemble real firearms. In paintball, participants try to hit each other with paintballs fired from a special paintball marker/gun.
It’s illegal. It’s not yours, you’re still trespassing. Not that it’s really enforced, because if a building is abandoned, probably no one cares.
The most common risk from paintballs and airsoft bullets is through contact with the eyes (and to a lesser extent, the ears). Normally, a blow to bare skin probably wouldn’t cause any serious damage other than leaving a fairly large welt and bruise.
You can find airsoft guns ranging from $25 to around $120. Mid-tier models can range from $150 to $250. But if you’re serious… …then you’d better look for a much higher quality airsoft gun.
It burns quite badly on bare skin and feels even worse on a finger or an ear in the cold. However, there are many ways to relieve the pain experienced.
There is no minimum age requirement to play Airsoft in the USA. Airsoft guns are not classified as firearms unless anyone can own replica airsoft or gear. For example, California specifically states that people of all ages can play airsoft.
Airsoft is a military simulation sport in which players engage in mock combat using authentic military-style weapons and tactics. Unlike paintball, airsoft uses 6mm round hard plastic BBs. The weapons used are scale replicas of real weapons.
Getting shot with a plastic airsoft BB is also slightly less painful than getting shot with a steel BB from a BB gun for the same reasons, and because steel BBs more powerful airguns are usually fired at a distance.
Prices vary from pitch to pitch, but are typically between $10 and $35 for a day’s play. Some sports venues host special events and offer rental equipment (airsoft guns, BBS, protective gear, etc.) at an additional cost. See individual field pages for details.
One of the main reasons why airsoft is becoming so popular is the “cool factor”. The gear is much more realistic than paintball gear. Since the cannons fire a much smaller projectile, they can be constructed on an almost 1:1 scale. Simply put, they look and feel like the real thing.
