Most recurves are commonly available in 58, 60 and 62 inch lengths. The old rule was that if you had a short draw length less than 28 inches, you should shoot a 56 or 58 inch bow. For draw lengths of 28″ to 29½”, a 60″ bow would work best. For draw lengths over 29½”, a 62″ bow would be the best choice.
Total 25 pounds, up to 30 pounds is a very good starting point. The idea is NOT to learn from the bow you want to hunt with.

With a 550-grain arrow, my 50lb bow shoots 183 fps with a fast flying string that I’ve shot for years without a problem. A 45 pound bow would probably lose 7-10 fps. You could do that with a lighter arrow.

Many top archers shoot draw weights of 35 to 40 pounds. Beginners should consider draw weights of 25 to 30 pounds and slowly work your way up to heavier weights.
However, the heavier draw weight ultimately works against you more than for you in terms of overall accuracy consistency.
50 lbs of draw weight is a lot to keep steady enough at full draw to shoot accurately enough for a beginner because it takes time to learn how to use the right muscles and builds on that Engrain the Sight Picture… It’s easy… Especially when you’re trying to learn how to be as accurate as possible.
