This car requires “premium” unleaded with a minimum octane rating of 91.
The new Z runs on super petrol and Akio Toyoda’s tears.
Z’s also require premium fuel.
Fuel recommendation: Nissan recommends unleaded fuel with a minimum of 87 octane. In a pinch, an octane rating as low as 85 AKI can be used. Premium fuel is not recommended or required.
There is one exception to this: if the engine is not pressurized to deliver the power, then the gas will not misfire, making 87 octane perfectly fine. p>
You’re fine. You can drive around on 87 octane all day every month and you’ll be fine. The difference is your timing with changes and you don’t get the power the car could produce. While tapping/ping is possible, it’s not all that likely with today’s technology.
The main difference with Premium is its octane rating – 91 or higher compared to 87 for regular octane ratings. The higher octane rating gives premium gasoline greater resistance to early fuel ignition, which can lead to potential damage, sometimes accompanied by audible engine knocking or pinging.
Always super petrol. I’ve seen this debate a lot with the guys on my bike forum, but Shell seemed like a pretty popular choice for premium petrol and BP. Those are the only two I actually ride on my bike, and I’ll probably ride the same ones on my Z.
Premium gasoline is generally any type of gasoline with an octane rating of 91 or higher, with 91 octane and 93 octane being the most common versions of premium gasoline available at service stations in the United States ( 93 octane gasoline may be labeled “Ultra” or “Super Premium” in some cases).

Unfortunately, there is nothing in premium petrol that makes it last longer than other fuels from the pump. Since the differentiator is higher octane, the only real benefit you gain is a reduction in the likelihood of engine knock, which is not a major threat with most modern fuel systems.
Citing World Toyota’s Service Center, 11Alive reported that drivers should not put regular gasoline in a vehicle that takes premium because the lower octane rating in unleaded gasoline could produce a “knock” that could damage the engine of the vehicle damaged. It may also void your warranty.
For cars for which premium gasoline is recommended but not required – such as the Nissan Maxima V6, Toyota Camry V6 and Nissan Murano – using a higher quality gasoline such as premium will do the trick better Engine performance but not significantly better mileage, Champion said.
