thinkorswim recently decided to remove ProphetCharts from its trading platform. Since its inception in 2004, Tim Knight’s ProphetCharts has become the de facto charting solution for millions of active traders, both independently and following its acquisition by TD Ameritrade.
Select “Settings” from the drop-down menu. In the new menu that appears, click on the tab at the top of the page that corresponds to the type of security you are representing (e.g. stocks, options, futures) and at the top right of the tab section you will see a checkbox that says “Show Volume Sub graph”.
How to see future earnings in thinkorswim charts. Next, let’s look at how future earnings are displayed on Thinkorswim charts. Return to the Chart Settings panel, select the Stocks tab and check Show Corporate Actions. This will show upcoming earnings calls and dividend data in the expanded chart area (see Figure 3).
The platform itself is free to use when you open a TD Ameritrade account with a minimum deposit of $0. Also, they don’t charge any account fees, maintenance fees, or inactivity fees. So you can easily set up your account to use their trading platform for the charts if you wish.
To access the charts, please log in to your TD Ameritrade account or create an account!
Investigate how much capital a single position requires in the Position Statement section of the Monitor tab on the thinkorswim platform. The BP effect or purchasing power effect is the impact of a position on the available trading capital or purchasing power of an account (Figure 1).
The Market Maker Move (MMM) indicator is displayed on the thinkorswim® platform when the market is pricing in excessive volatility. The MMM can be particularly useful during winning season. Equity traders can use MMM to price entries and exits, while options traders could use it for exercise selection.
Volume Weighted Average Price (VWAP) is a technical analysis indicator used on intraday charts and resets at the start of each new trading session. It is a trading benchmark that represents the average price at which a security traded throughout the day based on volume and price.
TD Ameritrade Mobile Trader and thinkorswim Mobile are the same application. TD Ameritrade Mobile has two applications in the Android Store. One is for phones and one is for tablets. Mobile Trader has only one application and automatically scales to a phone or tablet.
You can plot the indicator in Thinkorswim charts. In the Charts tab, add a symbol and bring up an intraday chart (see Figure 1). Select Studies and from the Add Study drop-down menu > Market Strength Studies > VWAP.
