Ok, flying isn’t that cool anymore, but it was all the rage in the 80’s and 90’s. And by that we actually mean the 1880s and 1890s, because back then the word bow tie was used to describe someone who was smart and generally cool.
– Fly (adjective) – This term, meaning “keen, alert, on it,” first appeared in American slang 200 years ago and was widely adopted by African-American and hip-hop culture in the 1970s and 1980s , as in the movie “Super Fly”. Some say that “flying” comes from the cunning vigilance of the housefly.

Flying. You could use hottie now, but back in the day a boy or girl was pretty fly. It means they were good at something or just attractive. You can also use it to say something is awesome or cool, like “This ring is a bow tie!”
It’s slang and means pretty much the same thing as “cool” or “awesome”.
