Suit and blazer sizes have a number and a letter (e.g. 38S, 40R, 42L). The number is your chest measurement and the letter refers to the length of the jacket: short, regular or long.
All chest sizes are available in three lengths: R(Regular), L(Long) and S(Short). A simple way to explain the difference between “Regular”, “Long” and “Short” is that with “Short” both the sleeves and the length of the entire jacket are 1″ – 1.5″ shorter than with ” Regular” and the same applies to “Regular” vs. “Long”. 36 SHORT. 36 REGULAR.
A 40r jacket fits a 40″ chest and the letter R means it’s a regular fit. Therefore, opt for a size 40r jacket if your chest is in the 39-41 inch range and you are between 5ft 8 and 6ft 1 tall. But there are two other variants of the 40s suit jacket – the 40s jacket and the 40l jacket.
A 46r suit is a suit that is generally recommended for men who are not too tall, say 5’11” and have a waist length of 38 inches.
To measure your jacket size, remove heavy clothing, then use a tape measure and ideally a friend. Find your chest size by measuring the fullest part of your chest, just under your armpits or around your breasts.
