The LeapFrog LeapPad 2 requires four (4) AA batteries that can be easily replaced without tools. The LeapPad 2 should be powered off before removing the existing batteries.
The LeapPad charges very slowly when connected to a computer. It should be charged with a working wall adapter for proper charging performance.
To charge your LeapBand, use the included USB cable to connect it to a USB port on your PC or to a USB wall charger (not included). It takes four hours to fully charge the LeapBand. To view the current status of the battery, use the right button to scroll to the battery gauge on the device.

Replace/recharge batteries. Buy a pack of four fresh AA batteries. Open the two battery compartments on the back of your LeapPad2. Insert the batteries; Make sure the symbol on the battery matches the symbol in the battery compartment.
To turn on the device, press and hold the power button until the LeapFrog splash screen appears. After switching on, the initial setup begins.
Insert a plastic opening tool into the seam between the front and back covers to separate the back cover from the rest of the device. Move the plastic opening tool around the perimeter of the LeapPad2. Lift and remove the back case from the tablet. A butter knife can help pry the device open.
If your screen isn’t responding to the stylus that came with your device, you may need to recalibrate it. To do this, first make sure the device is turned on, then press and hold the Home and Volume Up buttons. Once this is done you will be taken to the parent menu where you select “Screen Calibration”.
The LeapsterGS Explorer battery compartment covers are designed to fit snugly to prevent the batteries from popping out if the device is dropped. To open the battery compartment cover, place a thumb on each of the textured arrows on the battery compartment, then press firmly down and away from the device to release the cover.
Unlike other tablets, the LeapPad 2 has no way to access the internet, a feature (or lack thereof) that lures many parents to this kid-friendly tablet. LeapPad 2 is recommended for children aged 2 to 10 due to its target audience and content, as well as overall ease of use.
