Fleas like to hide in crevices. Their populations are more numerous in places where they can feed (e.g., pet beds and living rooms) and reproduce undisturbed (e.g., areas with less traffic or carpeted floors). They also inhabit upholstery, furniture and other common household fixtures, especially where they can keep warm.
Check shaded, damp areas outside for fleas with the sock test. They tend to hang out in areas where the sun doesn’t shine, such as under porches, shrubs, and around trees. Once you find out where the fleas are hiding, you can start treating your home and yard to get rid of the pests.
Fleas are most active at sunset and least active at sunrise. At dusk, movement, egg production and respiration increase. Fleas are never completely inactive. They produce eggs and feces throughout the day.
