ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Ralcorp Holdings, Inc. announced that it has reached a definitive agreement to sell its baby nutrition subsidiary, Beech-Nut Nutrition Corp., to The Milnot Company for $68 million has taken cash.
Beech-Nut’s only products are Baby Juice, Baby Porridge and Baby Jars. RJR Nabisco Inc. owns the Beech-Nut brand of Life Savers candy and Beech-Nut chewing gum, and Lorillard Inc., a unit of Loews Corporation, owns Beech-Nut chewing tobacco. Nestle bought Beech-Nut from an investment group in 1979.

While there appears to have been no official justification or announcement for the discontinuation of Skittles gum, it’s safe to assume there was poor sales despite the company’s clever marketing slogan: “inflate the rainbow.”

Bulk candy then and now
They created popularity by taking penny candy to every main street in America and cementing it as part of our cultural heritage. When the Woolworth chain closed its US stores in the 1980s, much of penny candy’s popularity died.
This year the company was sold and relocated to McKinney, Texas where a nut processing operation continues. However, in 2004, the Necco company brought the Squirrel Nut candy brand back to Massachusetts, where they were produced until Necco ceased operations in 2018.
