In the Castner-Kellner process, caustic soda is produced by electrolysis of an aqueous sodium chloride solution (brine). The Castner-Kellner cell consists of a rectangular iron kettle. It is divided into three compartments by two non-porous partitions.
In the Castner-Kellner method, NaoH is produced by the electrolysis of an aqueous solution of NaCl (brine). Chlorine generated at the anode is removed from the top of the cell. This also produces chlorine gas. Solid NaOH is obtained from this solution by evaporating water.
