The Rune Defender is the seventh defender obtained in The Fighters Guild and is held in the off-hand instead of a shield. It drops from Cyclopes on the top floor of the Fighters Guild, but only if the player is wielding or carrying an Unyielding Defender.
Players can obtain a Dragon Defender without having a Rune Defender in their bank. Its defense bonuses are comparable to those of an unyielding square shield, with minor differences.
Defenders can be obtained by killing the Cyclopes in the Fighters Guild. When the player has acquired a bronze defender, he must go to Kamfreena and show it to her. The next time that player enters, the Cyclopes will now drop the next tier defender. This process is repeated to obtain higher tier defenders.
The Avernic Defender is a level higher than the Dragon Defender. It offers more offensive and defensive stats, making it one of the best off-hand defensive weapons. The defender needs attack and defense level 70 to wield it.
Dragon Defender (Broken)
Requires level 60 Defense to equip. It can only be obtained when the player has a combined attack and a power of 130 or level 99 in attack or strength. It is only available as a rare drop in the Fighters Guild basement from the resident Cyclopes.

The Avernian Defender’s Grip is an add-on that can be obtained as a reward from the Theater of Blood. When used with a Dragon Defender, the Avernic Defender will be created after a confirmation message. This operation can be undone, but the grip will not be returned.
Players who have earned a Rune Defender can now access the Fighters Guild Basement. Just outside the back door of the Fighters Guild is a ladder that leads down. Go downstairs and have a chat with Lorelai. She will be happy to explain what the cellar is for and why it is there.
So once you’ve shown them off with a rune defender, you can drop any other defender and keep going downstairs to get a new dragon defender if you lose.

The Black Defender is a defender available in the Fighters Guild that is held in the off-hand instead of a shield. It drops from Cyclopes on the top floor of the Fighters Guild, but only if the player is wearing or wearing a Steel Defender.
