Permanent valve stem replacement – install from outside of wheel, install from outside of wheel! By Colby Valve – Walmart.com.
Replacing your valve stem is an easy task, even if you’re not a mechanic. Repairing new valve stems will cost around $10 if you do it yourself. If you take it to the shop it will cost around $30.
In most cases, the quickest way to replace a valve stem is to take it to a tire shop and have the tire removed and the valve stem replaced using a tire machine. p>
Wheels have two valve stems for two reasons. First, so you can pump air in with one valve stem and check tire pressure with a connected pressure gauge on the other. And the second reason is to make it easier to refill nitrogen air. One valve stem is used to pump in nitrogen while the other stem exhausts regular air.
Replace a valve stem without removing the tire from the wheel with the AME 51025 QVC tool. Great for trailers and ATVs, this tool is ideal for any leaking valve stem.
The Tire Pressure Monitoring Sensor replaces the previous rubber valve stems for $1.49. Replacing these sensors can cost anywhere from $79.95 to $149.95 per sensor. Over time these sensors are subject to corrosion and may need to be replaced.
Replacing or repairing a tire valve is inexpensive, quick and easy. Having the job done at a store might cost you $20-$30, but you can do it yourself in less than 10 minutes and for less than $5. Here’s how.
If the valve stem is leaking, you can easily fix it yourself with a valve stem tool. All you need is a valve core tool and a new valve core package (both inexpensive).
It’s not just age that can cause a valve stem to malfunction. UV rays, heat and salt can cause cracks, they can be cut by hubcaps if not properly replaced, and rubbing against curbs or stones can break or damage them.
Rubber valve stems deteriorate from heat, UV and ozone exposure. I would give them the same safe lifespan as tires and say 5 or 6 years. I’d replace them afterwards, although they’d probably be fine for much longer.
How much does Walmart charge for tire fitting? If you buy your tires from Walmart or Walmart.com, you can have your tires fitted at a Walmart Auto Care Center for $15 per tire. That means expect to pay $60 total for the basic install on four tires.
Expert Answer: Tires sold individually, not premounted on a rim/wheel, do not include valve stems, but we do offer these as separate items. Tires that are pre-fitted and sold with the rim/wheel naturally include the valves.
