At the end of the film, however, it is revealed that he somehow survived the fall (with the help of his horse), and Mushu saves the day by pretending to be the Golden Dragon of Unity Liberation of the princesses from their vows.
“We break Li Shang into two characters,” Reed explained. “One became Commander Tung (Donnie Yen), who acts as her surrogate father and mentor throughout the film. The other is Honghui (Yoson An), who is a match for [Mulan] in the roster.”
But Shang is said to have survived the fall and goes to see Qui Gong to stop her from marrying Lord Chin’s son. Mulan almost goes through with the marriage but is stopped by the Unity Golden Dragon, in fact Mushu is impersonating the dragon by speaking from inside the statue.
Li Shang was a popular character in the original “Mulan” and many people considered him bisexual as he was clearly attracted to Mulan while she presented himself as a male soldier named Ping. Li Shang may not appear in Disney’s live-action Mulan, but the film gives us a new romantic interest in the heroine with Honghui (Yoson An).
Mulan’s surname has been changed from Fa, the Cantonese pronunciation of her name, to Hua, making it more consistent with the name of the original ballad. However, both names have the same basic meaning.
Chun Hua is a 2015 and 2019 revamped character in the Ever After High franchise. She is the daughter of the famous warrior Hua Mulan.
Why is Mulan sad at the beginning of the story? She doesn’t like to sew. Her mother is mean to her. She doesn’t want her father to go to war.
Like the animated film, Honghui and Mulan don’t officially get together at the end.
The animated film also featured a romance between Mulan and Li Shang, but Disney confirmed that Shang will not appear in the live-action adaptation. Instead, Mulan’s love interest is Chen Honghui (Yoson An), and in an early cut of the film, the two share a kiss.
