Pismo State Beach and the adjacent Oceano Dunes State Recreational Vehicle Area both allow vehicles on our 8 miles of drivable beach and dune areas. The best conditions are at low tide, the speed limit is 24 km/h and sticking to the hard sand will keep you out of trouble.

How much does it cost to drive on Pismo Beach?

Day passes are $5.00 per vehicle entering the beach. Motor vehicles can access the beach at the end of West Grand Avenue in Grover Beach. The speed limit on the beach is 15 MPH. It is strongly recommended that only people with 4WD vehicles enter the beach.

Can you still ride at Pismo Beach?

Yes. “Green Badge” OHVs and “Street Legal” replica vehicles have been restored. Temporarily capped daily OHVs for Oceano Dunes SVRA at 1,000 per day.

Is it illegal to drive on the beach in California?

There are few areas along the California coast where you can legally drive directly onto the beach. There are no legal beach cruising areas in Southern California (unless you include Fiesta Island). Central California is fortunate to only have one area at Pismo Beach, and Northern California has the rest.

Can you drive a Jeep on Pismo Beach?

Daytime Use: Both parking units are open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. for day-use by visitors who may enter on foot, bicycle, or in a “road-legal” vehicle (e.g., jeeps or trucks). Vehicle access: “Street legal” vehicles such as jeeps and trucks are allowed on the dunes.

Are you allowed to drive on the beach?

You are allowed to drive on Muriwai and Karioitahi beaches provided you have a valid permit and follow certain rules. You are not allowed to drive on other beaches except to launch or salvage a boat or in emergency situations.

Is Pismo Beach free?

One of the main attractions in Pismo Beach is undoubtedly the pier. This 1,300-foot-long wooden structure stretches out into the Pacific Ocean and serves as a community gathering place where visitors can fish, participate in seasonal events, or just admire the view.

Is Pismo Beach open to vehicles?

Park Hours: Open to vehicle traffic daily between 7:00am and 1 hour after sunset. The new closure time is consistent with other coastal units in the state park.

Can you drink alcohol on California state beaches?

On March 18, 2021, the Coastal Commission ordered: Amend the permit for Oceano Dunes SVRA to include closure of the SVRA by 2024, closure of the Pier Avenue entrance by July 2022 and a Demand closure of Arroyo Grande Creek in the event of rain. p>
