STEP 1 – CHOOSE COLORS
Too much liquid in the chocolate can cause it to set, so we recommend using less than ¼ tsp at a time. Queen Food Color Gels are concentrated so you need less to achieve a rich color and there is less risk of the chocolate settling. We recommend using 2 drops of gel at a time.
We recommend not using icing colors or Color Right food coloring to color your candy as these are not oil based and can ruin your candy. You can also mix different colors of Candy Melts candies together to create a whole range of colors!

The best way to color white chocolate as it melts or already melted is with oil-based coloring. But you can safely use powdered food coloring. Don’t use water-based food coloring or the chocolate will set and ruin. Slowly add the color while stirring, stirring, stirring.
Can this color be used on chocolate? You need special edible chocolate coloring because food coloring doesn’t stick to the waxy surface of chocolate.
Liqua gel. Liqua-Gel is also water-based but contains glycerin and corn syrup, making it a semi-solid gel and a concentrated form of food coloring. When using Liqua-Gel for the first time it is always best to start with one drop at a time, mix well and then add another drop if needed.

For chocolate you must add either powdered or oil based food coloring. You cannot use water-based food coloring as this will cause the chocolate to set. Powder and oil-based food coloring adds color without ruining the texture of the chocolate.
Gel food coloring is made from synthetic color with water and a corn syrup or glycerin base. The corn syrup and/or glycerin gives it a very viscous texture. Therefore, this form of food coloring is very concentrated and not as “runny” as liquid food coloring.
