Replacing power supplies can cost hundreds of dollars, but they can often be repaired for free if you already have the necessary materials. The same can happen with the connector on any type of power supply, but it most often happens with notebook computer power supplies, especially those with coaxial cables.
Here are some possible reasons why your power supply might fail: All electronics have a finite lifespan; they will eventually fail. You can get dirty energy that stresses components. They heat up and cool down with every use.

Normally, a power supply unit still lasts for years. Unplugging it when not in use is likely to extend its lifespan beyond its usefulness. That’s not a bad thing. So if you unplug it or let a power strip turn off the power for you, the power adapter will last longer when you’re not using the device.
Make sure the power adapter is firmly and securely plugged into the outlet. Although it may sound obvious, the adapter can become loose without realizing it. If partially plugged in, it may appear as if the power adapter is not working, but power may not be supplied from the outlet.

You have a defective cable, adapter or socket
A damaged charging cable is one of the most common causes of charging problems. There are many ways that cords can become damaged and wires are exposed or broken. In addition, cuts and kinks can cause your cable to not perform as expected.
If your laptop has a built-in USB-C port, you can charge your laptop using a USB-C cable – you just need to make sure the cable has a plug adapter (the box-shaped one plug at the end of your phone charger that can be plugged into an outlet). Some laptops actually use a USB-C cable as the primary charger.
The output side (to the computer) of the power supply is protected and limited to 18 volts DC. Here is a typical process: First the transformer would burn out, Next the AC/DC converter would burn out.
Android smartphone manufacturers, including Samsung, are saying the same thing. “Don’t leave your phone on the charger for long periods of time or overnight.” Huawei says: “Keeping the battery level as close to the middle (30% to 70%) as possible is effective extends battery life.”

A computer power supply should be replaced after five years. After that time, a power supply will most likely become less efficient and potentially cause a system to become unstable. The main causes are aged capacitors and other components, overvoltages, heat and other mechanical stresses.
You can use a laptop without a battery
First, make sure you are using the original AC adapter that came with the laptop. Power fluctuations can cause components on the laptop’s motherboard to fail, which the battery can prevent by acting like a UPS.
Typically, laptop power supplies last longer than the computer. I know the last time I replaced a laptop power supply was in 2006 because I blogged about it. The defective power supply lasted six years, which is not a bad run. Admittedly, I used this laptop well past its prime.
